About 2 years ago my husband and I embarked on a complete bathroom makeover. Originally we had a poky little bathroom and a separate ugly, green toilet. Not happy with this situation (seriously, I refused to use the ugly toilet, instead preferring to walk a bit further to the newer one off the laundry) we decided to rectify it by knocking out a wall and combining two rooms to give us a large new bathroom.
Complete and utter bliss, we have a huge bath, huge shower and lots of space for storing all those containers and bottles that seem to accumulate.
In all seriousness my favourite part of the bathroom is the storage and it was achieved easily and simply by utilising an Ikea cabinet from the Vattern series.
It’s not just any run of the mill cabinet though, I was faced with a seemingly unusable space beside the toilet, because lets face it no-one wants to lean right down with their face next to the toilet to reach for anything stored on a shelf or drawer there.
To solve this dilemma I made up a little Ikea hack of my own.
I took a Vattern Lonnen Door (the white one):
and the basic drawer piece and made new holes to attach the door to the front of the drawer:
Inside this drawer is a pop up laundry basket
The drawer easily slides out to put the clothes inside and the basket lifts out when I need to drag it to the laundry to be washed.
When closed the cupboard looks like any other door. I attached a similar handle to the ones on the sink cabinets for a streamlined look. This modification on the cabinet has allowed us to utilise all the space available in the room and hide away our dirty laundry as well.
Hope you like it.
